Durand reckons that sprinting past Francis Bacon’s triptych is the best way to see it.

Sebastian Coe, the former athlete and chair of the 2012 organising committee turned himself into an art work by taking part in Martin Creed’s installation at Tate Britain, which involves a series of athletes sprinting the length of the hall.

The stunt kick started the Cultural Olympiad, a four-year arts programme celebrating Britain’s creative talents in the run-up to the London Games.

Tate Britain visitors caught a fleeting glimpse of the former Olympic athlete over the weekend of September 26-28. Lord Coe, 51, a double Olympic champion and 12-time world record holder, retired from the track in 1990.
